Thomas Manuel Ortiz is a mechanical engineer with 30 years of eclectic experience across the energy space, including: hydrogen thermodynamics, the use of recycled carbon dioxide as a net-zero refrigerant substitute for heat pumps, oil and gas exploration, production and refining, offshore wind siting, and geologic carbon sequestration. Tom is the author of Why We Struggle to Go Green: Hard Truths About the Clean Energy Transition, which is available from Texas A&M University Press. He holds a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from Purdue University and an M.B.A. in finance from Texas A&M University. He is also a registered professional engineer in the State of Texas. Tom lives in Austin with his wife.
